Snowmass – the name kind of says it all, doesn’t it?

Located in the powdery heart of the Colorado Rockies, Snowmass is the largest of the Aspen/Snowmass mountains and is the 2nd largest resort in Colorado.  It is a mountain of convenience with the airport located a mere 6 miles away, 95% of lodging is ski-in/ ski-out, and boasts of a vibrant nightlife and variety of restaurants.  No wonder it has been voted the best ski resort in North America.

It is never the same mountain twice.  Snowmass has 3,342 acres of skiable terrain which averages to only 2 skiers per acre.  Skiers have endless runs to chase with no crowding.  The mountain is noted for wide cruise runs and is a great place for beginner skiers.  Most resorts have beginner areas at the base but Snowmass created a unique mid-mountain area at Elk Camp. Newer skiers ride gentle slopes while enjoying incredible views of the Rockies.  Snowmass caterers to all levels of ability with the breakdown of 6% Beginner, 47% Intermediate, 17% Advanced and 30% Expert. Sixty-four percent of Snowmass terrain, nearly 2,000 acres, is marked intermediate.  The longest trail is 5.3 miles long!

Snowmass has triple the black and double-black-diamond terrain of Aspen Mountain.  The pitches of Hanging Valley and its bowl, the Cirque are the steepest in the Aspen area. It’s known for its legendary steeps, cornices, chutes, and cliffs. Snowmass has some serious vertical – 4,406 vertical feet to be exact.  Even with a late start, there are untouched slopes to ride.

Love getting those First Tracks, but slept in?  Every day at Snowmass, they rope close-off one freshly groomed trail, usually a blue or black run, and it isn’t lifted till midday. It’s called the Noon Groom, so you always get the chance to make first tracks.

Get to the top quickly with Snowmass’s 17 lifts: 8 high-speed quads, 1 high-speed six pack, 2 gondolas, 2 quads, 1 double and 2 pull lifts, lift lines are…wait!  What lift lines?

Top of the Village 2

Located slope-side, we are lodging at the Top of the Village.  They are some of the most luxurious ski-in/ski-out condos in Snowmass Village. Amenities include: Mountain views, Private balconies, Fireplaces, Full service front desk with concierge services, Overnight ski tuning and free Shuttle transportation within Snowmass Village.  LSS has a one 3bdrm/3 bath condo and the remaining condos are 2 brdm/2 bath.

Taking a day off skiing?  You can head to the Snowmass Base Village for ice skating and a climbing wall.  Or ride the gondola mid-mountain to Elk Camp to go tubing, ice skating, snow-biking, s’mores, live music, and yummy food.

Did you know Snowmass is home to one of North America’s most unique fossil discoveries?  Unearthed in 2010, bones from 13-foot-tall mammoths, mastodons, a ground sloth, giant bison, an extinct genus of camel, and a Pleistocene horse were discovered. Learn more at the Snowmass Village Mall’s Ice Age Discovery Center

Try the Nightly Dinners at Lynn Britt Cabin and travel to and from the cabin in snowcats.  The cats leave the Base Village nightly at 5:30 pm.  Then enjoy a four-course dinner of New American cuisine and the live music.  You do need to make a reservation.
